Keeping Our Kids Safe

Thanks to a federal grant awarded to the Macon Piatt Regional Office of Education, community agencies including Crossing Healthcare, Decatur Family YMCA, the Salvation Army, and Webster Cantrell Youth Advocacy, are partnering for a series called “Keeping Our Kids Safe.”  This is a series that focuses on students’ physical and mental health, security, and safety.

Join us Sept. 14th at Warrensburg-Latham High School!

September 7, 2022 –  An estimated 500,000 predators are active on the internet each day, and over fifty percent of their victims are aged 12 to 15. But what can parents do to keep their kids safe?

Thanks to a grant awarded to the Regional Office of Education, child crime expert Detective Richard Wistoki, will be coming to Macon County to speak to students and parents about the dangers of cyber predators and cyber abuse.

Wistoki is the founder of Be Sure Consulting and has dedicated his career to helping children by pursuing, apprehending, and prosecuting child predators.  As an active Cyber Crimes Detective, he educates Law Enforcement using cutting-edge investigative techniques and Parents and Students on responsible digital activity.

He will be visiting local middle and high school students as well as hosting a presentation to parents on September 14th. The parent presentation will be held at Warrensburg-Latham High School from 6:30 to 8pm. The event is open to all community members and parents in Macon and Piatt counties. 

His visit is part of a series designed by the Regional Office of Education, as well as community agencies; Crossing Healthcare, Decatur Family YMCA, the Salvation Army, and Webster Cantrell Youth Advocacy, are partnering for a series called “Keeping Our Kids Safe.” The series features a number of speakers that will focus on students’ physical and mental health, security, and safety. In addition, the series will feature video interviews and podcasts available anytime to parents, students, and educators that are not able to attend in person.
