On April 17th, ROE39 had the honor of hosting Michelle Denault, who bravely shared her personal story of surviving sexual grooming during her high school years. Educators from Milligan Academy, Futures Unlimited and surrounding schools participated in the workshop to deepen their understanding of how to distinguish healthy, supportive mentoring from classic predatory behaviors. Michelle’s courage in sharing her experience sparked vital conversations about student safety, trust, and the role we all play in protecting young people. Thank you, Michelle, for your bravery and powerful voice. 💙

The Illinois Wellness Conference, sponsored by the Illinois Social-Emotional Learning Hubs, the Illinois State Board of Education, and the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools, kicked off yesterday with powerful pre-conference sessions. Jill Reedy and Dr. Nancy Brodbeck from ROE 39 led a well-received administrator academy on building trauma-informed schools.
Today’s keynote speaker, Chanelle Walker—known nationally as the Teacher Wellness Guru—is inspiring attendees with her passion for educator self-care. Tomorrow, the conference will close with Damon West, author of The Coffee Bean, who will share his powerful story of transformation and resilience.
It’s been a fantastic start to a meaningful and energizing event focused on supporting the whole child—and the whole educator.
